Why does John mention the “signs” this false prophet had done and the deception that results?

Revelation 19:20 (ESV)

20 And the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who in its presence had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped its image. These two were thrown alive into the lake of fire that burns with sulfur.

See Revelation 13:13–14 for detail on these signs. By mentioning these signs and their effect at this point, John underscores how dangerous this second beast was and so how liberating it was for his readers to hear that this beast is “captured.”
