The nations
are those human populations who are hostile to God (and so in league with God’s enemies, that is, the dragon, the beasts, and Babylon). The verb strike down
is graphic inasmuch as the blow is painful, even deadly (Revelation 14:6; Acts 12:23). As universal Judge (Revelation 19:11) Christ Jesus can and does inflict a mortal blow on hostile nations.
15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.
