1. Exodus 5:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does Moses do well that the foremen do not do?

Exodus 5:22 (ESV)

22 Then Moses turned to the LORD and said, “O Lord, why have you done evil to this people? Why did you ever send me?

The foremen take their complaint to Pharaoh and Moses, but Moses goes to the Lord. He pours out his heart to the Lord with all his questions and objections. He blames God for failing the work. God is not good to the people but treats them badly. God sent Moses, but his mission failed. Nothing has come of the goal (i.e., liberation); slavery just got worse. Moses does what Psalm 55 says: But I call to God, and the Lord will save me. Evening and morning and at noon I utter my complaint and moan, and he hears my voice…Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you (Psalm 55:16–17, Psalm 55:22).
