1. 1 Samuel 3:10 (ESV)

Why did the LORD call Samuel's name twice?

1 Samuel 3:10 (ESV)

10 And the LORD came and stood, calling as at other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant hears.”

The repetition of Samuel’s name is consistent with the manner in which God called and revealed himself to other men as well (cf. Genesis 22:11; Genesis 46:2; Exodus 3:4).1
