1. 1 Samuel 3:7 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

What does it mean that Samuel did not yet know the LORD?

1 Samuel 3:7 (ESV)

7 Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, and the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.

Samuel had no prior experience of receiving the Lord’s word.1 No special prophetic knowledge had been given to him at this time. If he had been called previously, he would not have mistaken the Lord for Eli.2
