11 Then Elkanah went home to Ramah. And the boy was ministering to the LORD in the presence of Eli the priest.

Samuel is busy serving an apprenticeship under Eli’s guidance. Eli was the official and chief priest at the time and it is likely that Samuel was one of his servants.1
