How can Paul be encouraged by Philemon when he is in prison?

Philemon 1:7 (ESV)

7 For I have derived much joy and comfort from your love, my brother, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you.

Even though Paul is not directly benefiting from any of the things with which Philemon is involved, he is nonetheless encouraged when he hears of the things which he has been doing to help fellow believers.1
