Ibzan sent his thirty daughters “outside his clan” for husbands, and he brought thirty daughters to his sons “from outside.” To what does “outside” refer? Was it outside his clan (NIV, NRSV, ESV), his tribe (HCSB), or even Israel? Just how far “outside” these marriage arrangements extended is not clear.
