Who baptized the people?

Acts 8:12 (ESV)

12 But when they believed Philip as he preached good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

With the use of a passive verb form, it is suggested that Philip was the one who did the baptizing.1 The people of Samaria responded to the message which he had been preaching with true faith and as a result they received baptism, the sign of belonging to God’s people.
