Job 4:9 (ESV)

9 By the breath of God they perish, and by the blast of his anger they are consumed.

According to Eliphaz it is evildoers, not the innocent, who will receive hard blows from God! Again, there is truth in what Eliphaz says. But he is wrong to apply this truth to Job’s situation. Punishment always means suffering. But suffering does not always mean punishment.
