Why does Jesus stop to ask who touched his clothes?

Mark 5:30 (ESV)

30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, immediately turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my garments?”

This question brings the mad rush to reach Jairus’s house to a grinding halt. Whether Jesus already had perfect knowledge of who she was or was genuinely searching for her is difficult to say. Whichever one we choose, the main purpose of the question is to lead to an encounter. Jesus wants to give her the opportunity to openly confess her act of faith.1 In so doing, he can openly commend her for it.
