Psalm 80:1–19 (ESV)

1 Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel, you who lead Joseph like a flock. You who are enthroned upon the cherubim, shine forth.

Psalm 80 is a cry for help after a catastrophic attack. Due to the mentions of Ephraim and Manasseh, this psalm likely dates from the period around the fall of the Northern Kingdom in 722 BC. According to the superscript, the psalm is meant for the choirmaster and is a testimony. The name Asaph indicates that it was composed by the descendants of Asaph and not the Asaph from the time of David.
