1. Acts 4:22 (ESV)
  2. Exposition

Why is the age of the lame man mentioned only at this late stage?

Acts 4:22 (ESV)

22 For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.

It is possible that Luke includes this detail right at the end of the narrative (Acts 3:1 – 4:22) in order to establish a connection with Israel’s time in the wilderness. If this is the case, then the lame man’s restoration represents the restoration of the true Israel.1
