Psalm 90:9 (ESV)

9 For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh.

Each day of the forty years during which the Israelites lived under God’s judgment, Moses saw how people were dying prematurely, proof of God’s wrath upon the people. It was a dreadful time for the people of God.
