What does it mean for Jesus to be the Author of life?

Acts 3:15 (ESV)

15 and you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead. To this we are witnesses.

Author can be used to refer to someone who has a pre-eminent position, someone who begins something, or someone who originates something. In this context all three meanings apply to Jesus (see Acts 5:31; Hebrews 2:10; Hebrews 12:2).1
