What must be remembered of the crossing of the Jordan River?

Joshua 4:7 (ESV)

7 then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.”

The crossing of the Jordan River was an impressive display of the Lord’s power that must be remembered by future generations so that they will fear the Lord just like their parents. This need for remembrance also suggests that dramatic miracles will be infrequent1 and they are not necessary in order for someone to have faith in the Lord.
