How far was Shittim from the Jordan River?

Joshua 3:1 (ESV)

1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning and they set out from Shittim. And they came to the Jordan, he and all the people of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

Israel had been encamped in Shittim since their triumph over Sihon and Og (Numbers 25:1).1 Shittim was about nine kilometres to the east of the Jordan River,2 and therefore a journey for a crowd of people from Shittim to the Jordan would have most likely taken the whole day.3
