Kindness
typically refers to acts of loyalty such as faithfully carrying out the pledge of an agreement. Rahab’s protection of the spies is an act of loyalty that deserves a reciprocal response.1 In ancient Near Eastern cultures, reciprocation was very important. If someone did you a favour, you would be almost obligated to do the same for them.
