To what part of the battle does this cry refer?

Zephaniah 1:16 (ESV)

16 a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.

The word used for battle cry refers not to the general noise that one hears in the midst of fighting, but to an organised shout to intimidate the enemy or to rally one's own forces (Joshua 6:5; ‘war cries’ Amos 1:14).1
